**As our Manager, Policy, you will**:

- Initiate, oversee and develop high level statements of advice, major policy papers, briefing notes, reports to policy forums at all relevant levels, presentations, speeches, publications, correspondence (including ministerial and Questions on Notice) and submissions to Cabinet on biosecurity policy issues and related funding.
- Lead and manage a policy team in line with overall Biosecurity Queensland and organisational strategy and frameworks to deliver an assigned policy portfolio within required timeframes and to the required standard.
- Recruit and manage staff including work allocations, performance, development under Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF) HR policy and procedures and support to Program staff.
- Manage the periodic review and updating of the Biosecurity legislation, standard procedures and guidelines within the role's assigned policy portfolio to maintain alignment with Biosecurity Queensland and DAF requirements and in response to emerging technical, scientific, social or financial information.
- Advise colleagues, senior management and, as required, the Minister's office about policy, policy measures, outcomes and anticipated and actual impacts on relevant stakeholder groups.
- Advise other Managers about matters within your assigned policy focus, and consult where there may be flow-on impacts of policy changes and impacts on other areas of the organisation and the wider biosecurity system.
- Work in partnership across policy, operations and science areas of Biosecurity Queensland and beyond to support common understanding of policy, to ensure policy can be operationalised and to evaluate the impacts of existing and new policies on the biosecurity system and Biosecurity Queensland priorities.
- Represent the organisation as a recognised expert in their policy area and, as required, represent and/or support senior management in representing the organisation on internal/external committees up to and including inter-jurisdictional working groups.
- Effectively manage assigned budgets.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and with representatives of other levels of government, industry and community organisations to maintain Biosecurity Queensland's position as national biosecurity leader, to monitor the policy environment, to develop policy proposals, to achieve policy outcomes and to report on policy matters.
