**About the Opportunity**

Strathfield Council is seeking an Urban Designer to deliver significant improvements to the public domain through collaboration and delivery of urban design and place-making projects. These projects cover a broad and varied spectrum of public domain strategies and plans, design codes, liveability principles and concept/masterplan development in commercial centres, major urban parks, plazas streetscapes and urban renewal areas.

To fulfil the role, the position entails the following duties:

- Inspire others to value design excellence, place making and liveability;
- Lead, design and deliver key urban design and public domain projects through all stages of design;
- Prepare strategy studies, master planning, feasibility studies and needs assessments to guide the LGA in the formulation of the Capital Works program to ensure optimal use of Council’s resources;
- Oversee and manage contracts and procurement activities to ensure they are complying with the relevant agreements, adhering to policies and procedures and providing value for money;
- Assist, participate and offer technical assistance in the operations of the Design Review Panel;
- Prepare briefs for complex public domain and urban design projects in collaboration with relevant stakeholders to ensure they are fit for purpose.
- Represent Council in negotiations with stakeholders and provide technical assistance and advice on Placemaking matters where required
- Investigate and develop funding options for Planning, Place and Development strategic projects

**About you**
- Tertiary Qualifications in Urban Design (or urbanism), either as undergraduate or post graduate in continuation from a base degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning, or recognised equivalently related design field qualifications in Urban Design/Architecture or a related discipline, including registration or eligibility for registration as a member of the respective professional association.
- Significant post-graduate work experience in urban design, planning, landscape architecture and/or architecture projects that have involved design, analysis and problem-solving skills to deliver public domain outcomes (Desirable)
- Eligibility for registration with AIA, AILA, PIA or equal professional peak organisation (Desirable).
- Proven ability to utilise creative design initiatives and innovative strategies;
- Experience in project management and managing consultants within scope and budget;
- Experience or demonstrated skills in preparing built form controls, guidelines, development control plans and other design-related policies;
- Proficiency in delivering graphic communication documentation using Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, SketchUp (or similar) and Microsoft Office;
- Demonstrated high quality written, graphic and verbal communication skills;
- Working knowledge of current trends and opportunities for urban design and more broadly sustainable design;
- Demonstrated experience working in a team environment and managing a range of projects simultaneously including strong time management skills, monitoring, and reporting across all stages of the project delivery process.
