**About the Position**

This role provides expert Environmental support to all our business operations throughout APAC. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects as part of a global team.

The primary purpose is to ensure continuous improvement in environmental performance, good corporate governance of environmental requirements, and ensure that business wide and local processes are in place to ensure Hitachi Rail fulfil its compliance obligations.

The secondary purpose is to support the Project Management Team to provide expert advice, support, and coordination to maintain compliance with Environmental legislation GBMS and client requirements.

International travel is a necessary aspect of this role, and as such a willingness to travel on a bi-monthly basis is essential.

Accountabilities:

- To act as the company representative on environmental matters in APAC, providing support and advice to APAC Hitachi Rail colleagues and coordinating with internal and external interested parties.
- To maintain ISO14001 accreditation and manage the continual improvement of the environmental management system (EMS) at a local operational level.
- To take central responsibility for monitoring and reporting activities as required by corporate, internal, and external interested parties, environmental performance, including carbon reduction targets.
- To manage an assurance programme of site audits to ensure that processes relating to environmental management and sustainability are being applied and highlight non-conformities and non-compliance with compliance obligations.
- Develop and monitor lead/lag indicators for environmental performance. Analyse data and trends to recommend continual improvement actions.
- To take responsibility for environmental initiatives that minimise adverse environmental impacts and capitalise on sustainable opportunities.
- To raise employee awareness of environmental management and sustainability topics by being involved in employee development and training initiatives.
- To input into tender bids where environmental management or sustainability input is required.
- Ensure systematic management of environmental legislative obligations, and compliance requirements under contractual arrangements.
- Ensure projects and sites have the required environmental management plans.
- To be aware of and actively promote and implement Hitachi’s ethos, culture, and values.

Required Skills/Knowledge:

- A degree (or equivalent) in a relevant environmental discipline.
- Competent / certified auditor for ISO 14001.
- Lead Investigator Qualification.
- A sound knowledge of the Australian legal framework, State Legislation, and environmental management systems.
- Strong interpersonal skills including network-building, problem solving and the ability to work with and influence people at all levels.
- The ability to develop and maintain a positive working relationship with internal and external stakeholders.
- Be someone who can bring a passion to be the best to Hitachi Rail with a ‘can do’ attitude.
- Have a commitment to work as part of a team within the HSE department and collaborate with other support functions.
- Have report writing and data capture experience with ability to produce reports.
- Have a detailed understanding of the environmental legislative framework.
- Have experience in developing and introducing environmental policies and procedures for standardisation across Hitachi Rail.
- Have experience in meeting deadlines and working alone and as part of a team to achieve targeted goals.

Desirable Skills/Knowledge:

- Health and safety knowledge.
- An understanding of ISO 9001 and ISO 45001; and
- Internal auditor or Lead auditor training.
