**A little bit about us**
Finance, Legal & IT Division’s primary objective is to provide high quality business services, systems, support and advice to the executive and the department’s business divisions to enable them to deliver their respective programs and activities.
The department uses a range of information and communications and technology (ICT) services and solutions to support and enable the delivery of business outcomes including:
- IT Service Desk
- Security Services
- Business Applications (support, development and maintenance)
- Web Sites (internal and external)
- Geospatial (mapping) Services
- Desktop and portable computers
- Printers
- Desktop and Mobile Telephones
These services and solutions are delivered by the Information Services Branch (ISB), which operates within the Finance, Legal & IT Division and is led by the Chief Information Officer (CIO).
**The opportunity we have available**
The department is seeking an Assistant Agency Security Adviser to assist in the management of all security related aspects of the department’s buildings and people, and ensure the operational environment necessary for the confident and secure conduct of government business.
Managing the procedural, physical, personnel, and information security risks proportionately and effectively enables the department to provide the necessary protection of the government’s people, information and assets.
**What will you do?**
The successful applicant will be responsible for assisting the Agency Security Adviser in managing the protective/physical security functions of the department in accordance with all relevant policies and frameworks.
Key functions include:
- Assisting the Agency Security Adviser in managing protective & physical security within the Agency;
- Ensuring security practices are maintained across all departmental sites (Canberra, Interstate & Overseas);
- Maintaining registers for security containers and restricted key systems;
- Conducting Site Risk Assessments for existing sites and new sites;
- Managing security staff and guards, where applicable, at Departmental sites;
- Managing the responsibilities of the Agency’s Communication Security Officer (COMSO) and Special Security Officer (SSO); and
- Support the ASA in managing contracts for security vendors.
**Who are we looking for?**
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Demonstrated sound judgement and an understanding of the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF), security environment and current threats facing the government;
- Minimum of 12 months experience in Protective Security or equivent role;
- Highly effective stakeholder engagement/management and the ability to influence through clear communication;
- Experience working in highly sensitive security zones (including Zone 4 and 5 areas);
- Experience working with Type 1A Security Alarm Systems and Electronic Access Control Systems (both controlled by Enterprise Building Integrator and Gallagher);
- Experience working within the boundaries of the Protective Security Policy Framework and the Australian Government Security Construction and Equipment Committee (SCEC) policies;
- Intermediate understanding of Personnel Security and Pass Office processes/policies for cross-functional collaboration; and
- Experience managing staff (employees and security contractors).
