**The Opportunity**
The Engagement Assistant Director is a key leadership position within the South Queensland Leadership Team. They have delegated authority and responsibility to resolve issues and risks across wide ranging activities. The role has people, program and stakeholder management responsibilities. They manage employees and take responsibility for their overall performance. The role nurtures and manages a range of key internal and external stakeholder relationships and networks. The Engagement Assistant Director works with a considerable degree of independence, under broad direction from the Director. They are responsible for planning and delivering aspects of the branch work program, reporting on progress against performance and quality indicators. They are responsible for ensuring that performance measures for the branch are met. They contribute to the development of branch strategic plans and lead the development of business cases and project plans for new initiatives.
The role provides expertise across a broad range of activities including customer service delivery, policy development, project management, community engagement and culture. The Engagement Assistant Director promotes a healthy and safe workplace environment, and models ethical behaviour in accordance with the APS Code of Conduct and APS Values.
This role includes the following duties and is expected to be conducted with a broad degree of independence:
- provide leadership and supervision to achieve branch outcomes and the NIAA's broader strategic directions for its stakeholders, providers and partners
- coordinate and oversee the development and performance of staff within the branch, in collaboration with team leaders. This includes ensuring that appropriate training, coaching, mentoring is in place for all staff
- model responsibility for personal performance by ensuring a Engage on a Page has formally been completed and recorded online
- facilitate the development and implementation of complex and nuanced program processes, procedures and projects.
- directly manage the implementation of these activities or, oversee implementation by branch staff
- monitor and report on the performance and quality of branch outputs and projects, against key performance indicators and quality metrics
- review branch performance from a wide range of sources to analyse trends and implement interventions as necessary
- develop branch quality assurance plans using the NIAA Quality Assurance Framework
- drive the quality assurance program within the branch, reporting on results with recommendations for rectification or improvement of policy, processes and projects
- facilitate and lead business improvement initiatives including identifying new and innovative ways to improve how the branch supports the delivery operational activities, policy and projects
- develop branch risk management plans using the NIAA Risk Management Framework
- monitor risks and mitigate emerging risk and realised issues via effective policy and process
- escalate ongoing systemic issues for review and correction, in consultation with the wider Branch Leadership Team
- provide expert technical and operational guidance to peers and senior staff
- research, critically analyse and respond to complex technical enquiries and sensitive complaints, leveraging the expertise of others to assist in high quality responses and resolution.
- lead teams to deliver the NIAA's work program within the Agency's Key Performance Measures and quality indicators
- oversee, develop, coach and mentor of staff to a high degree
- effectively build and manage relationships with internal and external partners, stakeholders, and service providers, and to promote the NIAA's business objectives through key strategic relationships
- actively lead decision making and strategic planning within the allocated work area, fostering and supporting NIAA goals and objectives to meet assigned outcomes
- manage the strategic delivery of a program, project or special initiative and be responsible for related outcomes
- plan, implement, manage, and monitor work processes, and set performance indicators
