**Job Description**:
The Chief of Staff is responsible for running the newsgathering operation of the newsroom. They identify the key stories to cover, assign reporters, deploy camera crews across the day and respond to breaking news. They will work closely with the Executive Producer and the News Director to maintain the competitive advantage of Nine/NBN News.
**Role Responsibilities**:
- Produce daily story lists and liaise with Executive Producer and News Director to compile local news content on a daily basis
- Monitor newspaper/radio/tv/ online/social media for breaking news and story ideas
- Direct and manage all reporters, camera crews and links in the field on daily basis
- Liaise with Nine Sydney daily on sharing of stories and news gathering
- Coordinate Nine/NBN News content for website with the social media producer
- Conduct daily story meetings (early, late morning, next day planning)
- Manage daily news coverage with the Executive Producer and Windows Producer
- Assist regional bureau reporters in finding stories
- Coach staff in systems and process
- Demonstrates a positive and professional communication style
- Participates in and supports a team environment
**Qualifications**:
- Experience as a Journalist/Reporter
- Demonstrated experience in a Chief of Staff position or similar
- Planning and organising of tasks in order to meet deadlines
- Ability to manage workload and prioritise accordingly
- Ability to work under pressure
- Attention to detail
- Well developed communication skills - engages peers, customers (internal and external) in active, open and productive dialogue
- Can work independently or as part of a team
- Has an excellent understanding of the business and newsgathering techniques and technology
