Where the team fits in
- In this role you’ll be working within the Consumer Product group, specifically leading the engineering practice for our Experience Engine portfolio. The Experience Engine portfolio mission is to provide best in class platforms that drive and scale our experiences across the whole of REA. This portfolio includes products that drive our front-end experiences, as well leading new areas for REA including Personalisation, Privacy, Data Science and Machine Learning.
- The Experience Engine is responsible for some of the key capabilities that drive REAs business and technology strategies. Your mission is to bring this to life by building a high performing team who deliver sustainable and innovative products to our Consumers.

What the role is all about- Team: Building a large, high performing engineering team. Team size will vary over time; currently it is composed of 8 squads with approximately 90+ people.-
- Strategy: Ensuring there are long range technology plans in place, driven and aligned with company strategy. Specifically, driving forward our response to Privacy and emerging AI capabilities.-
- Engineering practice: You will build an effective engineering team practice. This includes the systems operations and systems health of your portfolio. You will put in place the processes for sustainable operations, meeting service level objectives.-
- System of work: Alongside peers, you will establish org structures & operating rhythms that deliver a common vision for our strategic objectives and effective processes for day-to-day operations-
- Major program delivery: Initiating, executing and guiding major projects to achieve great outcomes.-
- Reporting & Stakeholders: Engaging senior stakeholders through insightful reporting of operations, programs, risks and outcomes.-
- Risk: Keeping our Consumer information safe and our services available and compliant is a key priority. This role will manage portfolio risk in collaboration with REA’s risk team.-
- Managing investment: You are accountable for a large financial investment in your portfolio; you will manage costs and as appropriate make business cases to meet business objectives.-
- Culture: You will create a culture of engagement, accountability, learning and development.-
- Product Knowledge: The portfolio of products is complex; you will develop your own and your team’s understanding of these products and our product strategy.-
- Tech community: You and your team’s contribution to the tech community beyond your immediate portfolio.- Above all, this is a leadership role. You not only lead the engineering function, but you are also a leader of the cross-functional Experience Engine portfolio and a member of the Consumer Product leadership team that has a remit over one of the largest online brands in the Australian market.

Who we’re looking for- Demonstrated experience leading large high performing engineering teams (commensurate with the scope of this role)-
- Someone who can engage deeply with technologists; potentially you have a technical background.-
- Experience leading complex programs of work and managing cross team dependencies at scale-
- Strong commercial acumen-
- Experience with senior stakeholder engagement-
- Experience with long range planning or strategy development for your domain-
- Experience leading data or machine learning teamsThe REA experience
