The Department of Home Affairs is responsible for centrally coordinated strategy and policy leadership in relation to domestic national security arrangements, law enforcement, emergency management, counter-terrorism, social cohesion, the protection of our sovereignty, the integrity of our border and the resilience of our national infrastructure.
The Australian Border Force, an operationally independent body within the Department of Home Affairs, is Australia's frontline border law enforcement agency and Australia's customs service. The Australian Border Force's mission is to protect Australia's border and facilitate the legitimate movement of people and goods across it.
**Overview of the Branch and Section**:
The Drug and Alcohol Testing Coordination Unit (DCU) is part of the Integrity Strategy and Policy Section within Integrity and Professional Standards Branch (I&PS). It is responsible for the operational delivery and management of the Department’s Drug and Alcohol Management Program (DAMP).
**About the role**:
The DCU Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the planning and scheduling of drug and alcohol testing, in line with DAMP policies/Procedural Instruction, whilst supporting the DCU Manager and maintaining regular communication with the DCU Manager and DCU Officer/s (APS4). Work is conducted during business hours usually, primarily in an office environment with a requirement to attend operational sites dependent on the location of DAMP testing. Domestic travel is required for this role. This is a position of trust that requires sound judgement and exemplary levels of personal integrity, sensitivity, confidentiality and discretion.
**Specific duties/responsibilities**:
- Undertake administrative support activities
- Exercise delegations in accordance with legislation and guidelines.
- Coordinate, plan and prioritise work whilst adapting a flexible approach to changing business priorities, escalating issues accordingly
- Manage and conduct complex data entry and retrieval activities
- Research and analyse information and prepare reports
- Supervise information management and transmission activities
- Build and maintain productive working relationships across the internal and external networks
- Provide stakeholders with high quality advice and responsive service
- Communicate effectively with staff and stakeholders on a range of relevant issues
- Provide on-going direction, supervise, monitor and allocate workload, as well as assist with developing work plans
- Supervise staff to deliver assigned objectives and services
- Support and mentor staff, including coaching and training to build knowledge and capability
- Identify risks and establish risk context and profiles
- Contribute to the development and tailoring of appropriate controls and plans to mitigate risk to the team’s outcomes
- Assist with determining appropriate risk ownership and escalation points for team activities and projects
- Work closely and collaboratively with team members and management and positively contribute to the broader workplace and corporate culture
- Work in accordance with the Work Level Standards as set by the Australian Public Service Commission.
**Role requirements/qualifications**:
- High level written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organisational and time management skills
- Strong stakeholder engagement capabilities
- Hold or complete course/qualification ‘Collect Specimens for Drugs of Abuse Testing’.
