CSIRO Early Research Career (CERC) Postdoctoral Fellowships provide opportunities to scientists and engineers who have completed their doctorate and have less than three years of relevant postdoctoral work experience. These fellowships aim to develop the next generation of future leaders of the innovation system.

**The CarbonLock Future Science Platform**
Future Science Platforms (FSPs) are an investment in boundary-pushing science that will underpin innovation and has the potential to reinvent and create new industries for Australia. These multi-disciplinary, multi-year initiatives bring together diverse networks of partners - including early career researchers - to build the foundations of tomorrow’s breakthroughs.

The future science and capability developed in the **CarbonLock FSP** has the potential to underpin new industries and reshape existing industries for Australia and globally, with CSIRO’s science and capability at the centre. The CERC Fellow will contribute to this project which integrates two of the Horizon-3 research pillars of the **CarbonLock FSP**, namely Direct Air Capture (DAC) and Mineral Carbonation (MC), where the CO2 product from DAC is immediately locked in tailings at a nearby mineral processing site. This project focuses on a high-level process integration by closing the threesome loop of DAC-Solar-MC processes, potentially also yielding value-added products that enhance process techno-economics.

**Your duties will include**:

- Operating key items of equipment (e.g., Parr autoclaves, SEM, XRD) and where required undertake training.
- Acquiring, processing, and interpreting data relevant to the hydrometallurgical processing of ores/tailings (e.g., mineralogy, metals extraction and recovery).
- Designing and undertaking experiments that enable the integration of carbon capture technology with process streams obtained from the processing of ores/tailings.
- Drawing on professional expertise, knowledge of multiple disciplines (e.g., geology, mineralogy, geochemistry, chemistry, chemical engineering) and research experience to recognise opportunities for innovation and generate new fundamental understandings through the planning and pursuit of new ideas/approaches.

**To be considered you will need**:

- A doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in a relevant discipline area, such as chemistry, extractive metallurgy or chemical engineering. Please note: To be_ _eligible for this role you must have no more than 3 years (full-time equivalent) of postdoctoral research experience_._
- Understanding of and previous experience utilising laboratory instruments for the purpose of undertaking experiments and interpreting results relative to pressure vessels.
- A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively within a multidisciplinary team based across several locations plus the motivation and discipline to carry out autonomous research.
- Flexibility to travel and potentially spend several weeks at other CSIRO sites to undertake experimental campaigns.
