BMCC Animal Care Facility is dedicated to the protection and welfare of animals. We
strive to provide a safe and caring environment for abandoned, neglected, lost and
surrendered animals, with the goal of finding them permanent, happy homes.
The Animal Care Facility coordinator is responsible for the day to day operation and
management of the facility.
RELATIONSHIPS

Staff Responsibility: 4-6 Animal Shelter Attendants, plus a volunteer
roster
Key Internal Relationships: BMCC employees, Rangers, Program Leaders &
Directors. Finance, The Mayor, BMCC
Councilors, WHS, marketing & communications
and other departments
Key External Relationships: Members of the wider community, local
veterinarians, suppliers, other Animal Control
Facilities, NSW RSPCA,
Contractors/Consultants, Community Groups &

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Animal Shelter Coordinator is critical for the effective leadership of a team of
Animal Shelter Attendants & volunteers to ensure the Animal Care Facility is
adequately staffed & maintained to meet the needs of the animals in care, and the
responsibility to the community is met. You will performance manage & support your
team & volunteers to deliver effective and efficient animal management controls for
the BMCC, with an emphasis on reuniting companion animals to their owners,
rehousing & boarding animals
You will lead the delivery of improvement initiatives, ensuring that compliance
obligations are met, contribute operational insight to policy development, and support
staff through training and mentoring opportunities.
You will oversee the daily care and well-being of companion animals on-site,
including providing support for general husbandry, cleaning and feeding; supporting
veterinary and health care programs; implementing socialisation, behaviour
assessment, enrichment and training programs; coordinating stock and food
supplies; reducing waste, general maintenance on kennels and buildings, ensuring
accurate record keeping and data management; and supporting our animal welfare
program. Property inspections for prospective adoption customers maybe required.
Assist the team with customer service enquiries, administration and maintenance or
the facility. Coordinate the on-boarding, training, and safety of volunteers.
You will promote awareness & provide advise on responsible pet ownership to the
broader community and undertake community needs assessments by use of
surveys, benchmarking, focus groups, public meetings, training workshops & other
resources.
Your will manage donation management & collection of fees and charges, as well as
manage budgets and expenditure at the facility, and raise revenue to ensure on
- going viability, through various streams including impounding services and overflow
facilities from other councils.

Workplace Health & Safety
Ensure compliance with WHS obligations and responsibilities as outlined in Councils
policies and procedures and under the relevant WHS legislation. These include but
are not limited to: identifying potentially unsafe situations or work practices and
notifying your Supervisor or Manager (or the Health, Safety Manager/Area Safety
Representative); never performing a task that you believe is dangerous or for which
you do not have the experience, or have not received appropriate instructions and
training or where the correct equipment to carry out the task safely is not available;
always work in a safe manner and in accordance with safety instructions, where
applicable; use the work equipment supplied for the job, in accordance with the
manufacturer's instructions), and any personal protective equipment, which the
Council deems necessary and has provided; be safety aware and report any actions
to your line manager which will assist the Council to meet its legal workplace health
and safety obligations.
You have the right to cease or direct cessation of unsafe work. In addition, you are
required at all times to comply with Councils Asbestos Management Plan and Policy.
