**About the branch and role**
The Litigation & Dispute Resolution Branch comprises a number of legal teams that provide specialist legal services to government departments and statutory bodies on matters which are topical and often involve public interest issues.
We have several exciting opportunities for senior and experienced lawyers (Senior Associate level and above) to join the team as a Principal Solicitor and assist in responding to the ever-growing demand for our legal services.
Reporting to a Managing Principal Solicitor, Principal Solicitors efficiently manage diverse, complex and sensitive litigation including;
- General civil, police civil and tortious claims
- Commercial litigation
- State care, personal injury and negligence claims (including historical institutional abuse claims involving former minors and young persons in the care of the State)
- Coronial investigations including inquests
- Supervision order matters
- Judicial review and statutory interpretation.
Principal Solicitors assist with the supervision and mentoring of junior solicitors and paralegals.
**Skills and experience**
- Demonstrated experience in conducting complex and sensitive proceedings in state courts and tribunals, particularly personal injury / civil litigation, including a sound knowledge of relevant court practice and procedure
- Proven ability to provide written and oral advice which is fit for purpose
- Good interpersonal communication skills to truly connect with team-members and work together to deliver exceptional results for our clients
- Proven ability to effectively manage competing priorities, within a fast-paced dynamic environment
- Practical and client focused problem solving and research skills
- A strong focus on turnaround time and ability to work under pressure
- Proven experience in supervising, leading and mentoring staff
