The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA) is Australia’s audiovisual archive - responsible for collecting, preserving and sharing our cultural heritage. The collection of over 4 million items represents moving image and sound production from its earliest analogue formats to today’s digital media and includes related artefacts and documentation such as equipment, photographs, scripts, props and costumes.

**The Opportunity**

The NFSA is looking for a highly motivated, experienced person with a significant depth of technical knowledge partnered with program delivery skills to lead a team of audio and video collection digitisation professionals.

The Operations Manager works closely with the Film Services, Collection Management and Conservation teams to ensure the efficient delivery of preservation and digitisation activities.

**Job Details**

Under limited direction undertake the following duties:

- Provide practical leadership and direction to the operational and technical production facilities of the Collection Digitisation team, working collaboratively with the Senior Manager, Collection Digitisation and Team Leaders to achieve digitisation targets.
- Ability to undertake procurement for highly specialised equipment and supplies, maintaining currency with emerging technologies and relationships with suppliers and service providers.
- Provide expertise and advice in audio visual preservation and production delivery for high profile NFSA projects and represent the NFSA at public forums and networks to promote the Collection Digitisation program. Develop and maintain productive relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop and manage an inclusive, positive, flexible and high performing professional workforce that is outward facing and that actively opens up networks across the organisation and beyond. Support supervisory staff, and work collaboratively with colleagues across Collection Digitisation to develop programs for trainees and interns.
- Provide high level input into the development and implementation of business plans, reporting, budgets, policies and procedures, and develop, maintain and track costing and productivity information.

- Proven program delivery skills, including the capacity to meet and exceed key performance indicators, and to respond flexibly to changing priorities and competing demands.
- High level project management skills including undertaking complex procurement within a government framework and the ability to use project management methodologies to deliver projects and programs.
- Proven leadership managing audio visual technical operations in an industry and/or cultural environment, with a strong customer focussed and deadline driven approach.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a diverse team, including the capacity to develop training programs and to support and develop team capacity and skills.
- Proven ability to maintain productive working relationships, liaise effectively and negotiate with staff, management, stakeholders and professional peers through strongly developed and clear verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

**Location**

This position is based on site at the NFSA premises in Acton, Canberra. The nature of the work, location of digitisation equipment and security requirements for the collection mean that it is expected that the successful applicant will work on premises for the majority of time.

**Qualifications and/or equivalent experience required**:

- Relevant tertiary degree or technical qualifications and/or the equivalent experience in an industry, technical and/or cultural environment.

**Eligibility**

To be eligible for this position you must:

- Be an Australian Citizen
- Satisfactorily complete an Australian Federal Police National Police Check
