**ABOUT THE BRANCH & SECTION**
The Chief Financial Officer Branch supports the Executive Board and business areas by providing reliable and timely financial information to assist strategic decision making to drive improved organisational performance. The Branch consists of four sections: Financial Reporting, Budgets and Treasury, Client Facing Services, and Procurement Quality Review.

The Budgets and Treasury team manages the Department’s external and internal budgeting processes including coordination and review of new policy proposals and investment initiatives; administers the Department’s banking, cash flow and appropriations; and provides financial analysis and advice to the Executive Board and business areas.

**ABOUT THE**
**OPPORTUNITY**
The Budgets and Treasury team is seeking a high performing manager with responsibility for leading the Department’s external budget processes including preparation of the portfolio budget statements and estimates updates.
As the Assistant Director, External Budgets you will lead a small team and contribute to the strategic direction of the Department through the provision of financial and budgetary advice to senior managers and business areas. You will work closely with departmental and portfolio agency stakeholders to provide advice on new policy proposals, costings and other budget co-ordination requests.

The duties of the role include, but not limited to:

- lead the co-ordination and delivery of the Department’s budget processes including preparation of core budget documents e.g. portfolio budget submission, portfolio budget statements and estimate updates
- provide advice on new policy proposals and costings
- engaging with internal and external stakeholders including the Finance Central Agency Advice Unit and portfolio agencies to support the external budget preparation
- manage budget estimates updates in CBMS
- prepare ministerial and agency briefs
- develop and manage staff so that they have a shared sense of purpose and can successfully contribute to outcomes.
