**About the role**

Mater Hospital is seeking a chemical pathology trainee for 2025 in a tertiary level hospital laboratory, who will be responsible for chemical pathology testing at Mater Pathology including adult, obstetric and paediatric General Chemistry, Protein Chemistry, Endocrinology, Point-of
- Care testing, Biochemical Genetics and Molecular Genetics.

**Salary commensurate with experience: per hour** plus 11.5% superannuation and **access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900** + **access to many staff benefits

**What you’ll be doing**

This includes (but is not limited to):

- Ensuring that clinically appropriate advice and information is available to clinicians.
- Ensuring that equipment and methods are appropriate and relevant for testing.
- Ensuring that results and interpretations provided are accurate and unambiguous, and that important findings are reported to clinicians in a timely manner.
- Report to chemical pathologists and supervises and collaborates with the laboratory scientists to ensure that results are reviewed and reported in an appropriate time frame.
- Attends clinical meetings as required.
- Attends fortnightly Pathology Management Meetings, and other registrar meetings external to Mater, if and where applicable.
- Provides clinical and scientific input into laboratory management meetings.
- Learn relevant method and equipment evaluations, ensuring they are performed to the highest standard.
- Provides support and input as required regarding all performance, planning and development activities, including teaching, research, and audits.
- Complies with and utilises procedures, policies, regulations and standards which impact upon the position, including the Mater Code of Conduct, contemporary human resource management requirements and practices, such as Workplace Health and Safety, Infection Control, Equal Employment Opportunity and Antidiscrimination Policy.
- Participates in Journal Club and continuous professional development (CPD) with the chemical pathologists and scientific staff.
- Participates in sessional training of medical students and RACP Endocrinology Advanced Trainees, as applicable.
- Participates in ongoing professional development.

**About you**

**Qualifications**
- MBBS or equivalent
- Registration with AHPRA
- Successful applicant will need to enroll with the RCPA as a pathology trainee.

**Experience**
- This role is best suited towards a chemical pathology trainee who has previous experience in a laboratory.
- Demonstrated willingness to learn a broad range of current Chemical Pathology testing and diagnosis.
- Ensuring that results and interpretations provided by a laboratory are accurate and unambiguous, and that important findings are reported to clinicians in a timely manner.
- Liaison with clinicians requesting advice about appropriate testing.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate processes and staff in a clinical environment.
- Participation in development of computerised interpretative commenting projects.
- Contributions to original research through published papers and laboratory development.
- Teaching of staff and students
