Your Opportunity

This role will advocate for the rights, needs and well-being of consumers who are living with Mission Australia Residential Aged Care. The role will represent the voice on the Mission Australia Board’s Clinical Quality and Safety Committee (CQSC).

This position may require flexible hours and attendance to Board CQSC meetings for 2 hours every quarter along with site meetings for an hour a month.

Your Key Responsibilities:

- Using their own lived experience, this role will provide perspectives/insights on the clinical oversight and quality improvement discussions
- Collaborate with CQSC members to ensure clinical governance policies & practices align with consumer-centered care and needs
- Assist with facilitating interactions between CQSC members and consumers
- Promote a culture of trauma-informed care and recovery among older adults experiencing homelessness
- Advocate consumer needs and suggestions through appropriate channel
- Establish connections with community organizations, peak groups and stakeholders dealing with homelessness, mental illness and substance abuse issues
- Assist in organizing and participate in events to raise awareness about mental health issues

Requirements of Success
- Lived experience or experience supporting someone with homelessness, mental illness and/or substance abuse
- Strong communication, advocacy and interpersonal skills for effective representation of consumer perspective
- Ability to build rapport and trust with consumers
- Empathy, calmness, patient and a commitment to being trauma-informed and responsive in the approach of engagement

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications and referee checks, along with NDIS clearance.
