The Australian Bureau of Statistics is looking to fill an **Inclusion and Diversity Officer (Affirmative Measures - First Nations) **role in the Inclusion and Diversity Team in the Workforce, Communications and Clients Branch, Corporate Services Division.
The Inclusion and Diversity Officer contributes to the development and implementation of strategies to foster and promote an inclusive culture and increase diversity across the ABS.
This vacancy is being advertised concurrently under a general and an affirmative measure - First Nations recruitment process.
This is a permanent ongoing position at the APS 5 classification level; a hybrid model of working from home and the office applies.
**About the role**
This role is open to people that identify and are recognised as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, under the Affirmative Measures guidelines. This is your opportunity to play a critical role in ensuring the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples voice and needs are embedded into our work outputs.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- contributing to the development and implementation of inclusion and diversity strategies, policies and practices
- monitoring and reporting on outcomes of inclusion and diversity initiatives, as identified in the ABS Inclusion and Diversity Strategy and/or action plans
- building effective relationships with stakeholders (internal and external) and partnering to deliver agreed outcomes
- providing advice and support to managers and employees to raise awareness and understanding of inclusion and diversity matters
- supporting and assisting diversity champions and employee networks to create and promote an inclusive culture that values and supports diversity
- promoting and coordinating national events and activities to acknowledge/celebrate days of significance and importance
- preparing reports, briefings and correspondence - including undertaking research and analysis of data to explain concepts and information on inclusion and diversity matters.
In this role you will work in collaboration with internal stakeholders, including other Inclusion and Diversity team members, Workforce, Communication and Clients Branch, People Services Branch and diversity employee networks and champions (Disability and Carers, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD), Pride (LGBTQI+), Neurodiverse, Gender Equity and Yakeen (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander); and with external stakeholder and partners e.g. APSC, Pride in Diversity, Diversity Council Australia and Reconciliation Australia.
**What we are looking for (selection criteria)**
To be suitable as an **Inclusion and Diversity Officer (Affirmative Measures - First Nations),** you should be able to demonstrate some or all of the following:
- demonstrated ability to engage effectively and sensitively with diverse groups, e.g. people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
- well-developed written communication skills and ability to interpret and produce and present information in an inclusive, clear and concise manner in a variety of mediums for a range of audiences
- experience in developing and fostering relationships and in collaborating, engaging, influencing and negotiating with internal and external stakeholders
- ability to deliver under pressure in a dynamic environment, meet tight timeframes, manage competing priorities and respond quickly and flexibly to change
- demonstrated project management skills and the ability to problem solve and identify solutions
- a sound understanding of issues affecting diversity groups e.g. people with disability, culturally and linguistically diverse people, neurodivergent people and LGBTIQA+ people.
