**Total Remuneration**: $290k - $392k

First Grade has partnered with the QLD Department of State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning to source an Independent Assessor to lead the Office of the Independent Assessor.

**The Agency**

The office of the Independent Assessor was established under the
- Local Government (Councillor Complaints) and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2018 _as part of the Queensland Government's commitment to local government reform.

**The Role**

The Independent Assessor will:

- Provide strategic leadership to the Office of the Independent Assessor as a high-performing, effective, professional and ethical authority, which fosters improved integrity in local government.
- Promote high standards of conduct by elected representatives of local governments.
- Provide an annual written report to the Minister, which the Minister will table in the Legislative Assembly.
- Assess, investigate and deal with conduct of Councillors if its is alleged or suspected to be inappropriate conduct, misconduct or, when referred to the Assessor by the Crime and Corruption Commission, corrupt conduct.
- Provide advice, training and information to councillors, local government employees and other persons about dealing with alleged or suspected inappropriate conduct, misconduct or corrupt conduct.
- Manage the prosecution of offences against conduct provisions.
- Investigate other matters decided by the Minister

Under the Act, a person is qualified to hold the office of the Independent Assessor if the person has extensive knowledge of, and experience in any of the following areas:

- Local Government
- Investigations
- Law
- Public Administration
- Public Sector Ethics

**Benefits**

If successful, you will be appointed on a full-time basis for a period of up to 5 years, with the possibility of extension options. Total remuneration is at the CEO classification, between $290k - $390k.
