**The Role**
Got an eye for detail and editing experience? Then this is the job for you

The Sea Power Centre - Australia (SPC-A) is seeking an APS6 Editor who will play an important role in the Royal Australian Navy’s research and publishing priorities. We are looking for an experienced editor who has a keen eye for detail, and previous experience working with researchers in the strategic studies and/or military history fields. Under general direction and within legislative frameworks, this position ensures a consistent organisational voice, and plays a key role in bringing a range of publications, exhibitions and websites to life.

Key duties of this role are:

- Manage an in-house style guide, under the guidance of the Australian Government Style Manual, for use within the centre by staff, visiting researchers, visiting naval staff and academic interns.
- Edit and assist in the production and effective web-based publication of online materials, including historical content and research publications, to ensure effective and consistent presentation of text

- Edit book manuscripts for consistency, style, and academic convention
- Review written content for online and in-person exhibitions, checking for consistency in theming, storylines, naming conventions and public accessibility.
- Edit and assist in developing material for training, conferences and other targeted academic and learning audiences.

**About our Team**
Working to the Deputy Director of Navy Research, you will be part of a small team that supports the Sea Power Centre’s responsibility to enhance the understanding of Australia’s maritime environment, the concept of sea power, maritime doctrine and Australia’s naval history and heritage. This role will work with teams across the SPC-A, which is a blended workforce of ADF and APS personnel, as well as providing support to visiting researchers from a variety of backgrounds.

While the research and history teams are concentrated in Canberra, the SPC-A also conducts a number of conferences and heritage activities in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, and the Shoalhaven. This role is ideally undertaken based in our offices in Fyshwick, Canberra.
- Evidence of professionally edited outcomes aimed at different audiences.
- Experience in evaluating and assisting with the development of manuscripts and other material that can be used for publication in a variety of forms (including web).
- Knowledge of web-based content management systems, or a willingness and capacity to acquire such knowledge.
- Well-developed oral and written communication skills, and experience in dealing with stakeholders, including those where English is a second language.
- A developed ability to work independently including strong time management and the ability to handle competing priorities.
- A strong team work ethic that supports others to meet team goals and mentor others to develop their writing abilities.
- An understanding of Australia’s military and maritime environment, and a desire to learn more about the role of the Navy.
