The Salvation Army is one of Australia’s largest providers of alcohol and other drug services. We offer a range of services including Harm Reduction and Primary Health Services as well as a range of treatment types.
Bridgehaven is located on Wurundjeri lands in Preston. It provides residential rehabilitation for people affected by substance misuse who are over 18, identifying as female, with or without accompanying children. The service has 17 bedrooms, participants have their own room with a shared bathroom. The program usually involves a four-month stay, with options for supported accommodation after the program.
About the role
We are seeking a values-driven and proactive Alcohol & Other Drugs(AOD) Support Worker to provide supervision, support, and crisis intervention to women and children participants at Bridgehaven and to help maintain the functioning of the centre.
Reporting to the Support Work Coordinator, this is a casual position based in Preston, VIC. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the SCHADS Award Level 4.
This role will be required to work day shift, afternoon shift, and sleepover shifts including work on weekends and public holidays.
You will successfully- Protect the safety and well-being of all participants by monitoring and managing the dynamics of participants to provide a safe and positive environment for all.- Ensure new participants are inducted into the Bridgehaven program, ensuring a positive and engaging first experience with the program.- Respond to all resident enquiries and escalate to AOD Practitioners as required.- Actively participate in daily handovers and liaises with other staff as necessary to ensure required participant information is communicated.- Provide “hands on” practical support to participants to enhance living skills.- Assist with self-administration of medications for all participants, and scheduling GP & medical appointments as required.- Identify and respond to any likelihood or evidence of significant harm to participants or others; informing the line manager as soon as possible of any actions taken and or required.- Participate in group facilitation i.e. art, gardening etc.- Undertake all administrative and finance tasks in an efficient and effective manner.
You will have-
- Current AOD Skillset qualification or commitment to gain this qualification in the first 12 months of employment.- Previous experience in a similar role.- Victoria Working with Children check.- A current First Aid certificate.- A current Victoria Driver license.
