Presbyterian Ladies’ College (PLC) is one of Australia’s largest girls’ schools with more than 320 teaching and non-teaching staff, and a rich culturally diverse student population of over 1,600 from the Early Learning Centre (ELC) to Year 12. Although proud of its rich heritage, having been established in 1875, PLC very much reflects modern and forward-looking Melbourne.

The current Head of ELC, Mrs Debbie Hendren, has decided to retire after almost 30 years of leadership of the ELC.

The Head of the ELC will ensure that the Centre continues to provide a positive and nurturing learning environment with outstanding educational programs that will enable the children to thrive and achieve their full potential. In exercising this responsibility, the Head of ELC will oversee the overall management of the ELC which offers 140 places for babies to pre-school aged children. The Head of ELC will play a leading role in ensuring the delivery of an excellent age-appropriate program, of analysis of the needs of students and the translation of College policies and procedures, as well as the regulatory requirements for the care of the community’s youngest learners.

The College is seeking applicants with outstanding experience and qualifications for the position of Head of ELC. The role of Head of ELC demands active and effective leadership, including financial, facilities and resources management, staff management, development and performance, and safety,

risk and compliance.

With a start date of January 2024 (earlier by negotiation), The Head of the ELC reports directly to the Principal.

Key Responsibilities:

- Collaborate with the Principal and other College leaders to implement and deliver PLC’s Strategic Plan
- Lead the ELC curriculum development and implementation, ensuring requirements of the National Quality Framework (NQF) and the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF) are met and supported by the National Early Years Framework (NEYF) and the Quality Improvement Plan (QIP)
- Ensure that learning environments are dynamic and engaging and support active learning
- Develop and maintain positive, proactive relationships with the parent community
- Actively contribute to a broad range of College activities and attend after hours commitments
- Oversee the performance, professional development, coaching and wellbeing of ELC staff
