The purpose of the Tumour Bank is to build diverse cohorts of rare patient samples with matched clinical data for current and future research. The Bank support’s CCI’s relationship with hospitals around Australia and New Zealand, internal CCI researchers as well as our key partnering hospitals
- Sydney Children’s Hospital and the Children’s Hospital Westmead. This position is an integral part of the translational, clinical, and lab-based research performed by the Children’s Cancer Institute. As the Technical Assistant you are responsible for the centralised patient biomaterial and data reception, processing, and management for CCI Tumour Bank.

**As our Technical Assistant in Tumour Bank your purpose will be to**:

- Collect, register, and process patient biomaterials for diagnostic and biobank purposes according to protocols specified.
- Accurately annotate and record data on all patients and samples received including sample and patient information, consents, and clinically relevant
- Ensure the maintenance of laboratory and equipment adhere to the Institute’s high standards and policies.
- General filing including storage and biospecimens, forms and archiving research materials.
- Isolation of DNA, RNA and protein from patient samples from different source material.
- Preparation and shipping of patient biomaterials for local, national, and international shipment.
- Support a Saturday rostering for sample registration and processing. (On-call/weekend cover) Maintain and improve all Tumour Bank documentation and SOPs to adhere to the Institute’s high standards and policies.

**To succeed you will have**
- Tertiary qualifications in science or relevant health industry experience
- 1+ years Hospital/Pathology laboratory experience highly desirable
- Patient Sample reception/processing experience highly desirable.
- Experience with PC2 and WHS standards and behaviour highly desirable
- Experience with database entry and management.
- Excellent IT skills
- Ability to work to deadlines.
- Excellent attention to detail
- Flexible attitude to work
- Organisational skills
