Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ rights, knowledge, cultures and stories;

Our functions are established under the _Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait _
- Islander Studies Act 1989_.
AIATSIS is a statutory authority under the Public Service Act 1999 (Cth) and a Corporate
Commonwealth entity under the PGPA Act.
AIATSIS employees are employed under the Public Service Act 1999, with terms and conditions

**About the Group**
The Strategic Operations Group is an enabling services function providing strategic support to
the Institute. The group comprises 5 areas covering Governance, People Services, Finance,
Digital Services and the new Central Australia facility (Mparntwe).
**About the Program Area**
The Central Australia facility in Alice Springs is the first regional facility for AIATSIS outside of
Ngunnawal Country (ACT) and will provide culturally appropriate digitisation and storage
capacity along with local training opportunities.
The facility will also enable local preservation of community-held collection materials and
increased preservation and repatriation of Indigenous collections and cultural information. The
facility will deliver services to improve searching and accessing the AIATSIS Collection, training
opportunities and learning opportunities through exploration of our exhibition space and
cultural research including family history.
**Key Responsibilities**
The Reception/Guest Experience Officer will contribute to the achievement of AIATSIS goals and
objectives as a member of the Central Australia Mparntwe team.
The duties of the APS 4 Guest Services Officer include:
- greet and host guests and deliver services to assist clients to search and access the
AIATSIS Collection at the Central Australia facility.
- support guests as they explore and learn from the exhibition space as well as provide
family history research assistance.
- work with internal and external stakeholders in activities involving the AIATSIS collection
and other AIATSIS resources.
- respond to requests for collection material from the AIATSIS collection in a timely and
accurate manner.
- undertake research on collection material.
- communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders who are both
Indigenous and non-Indigenous on a range of complex matters. play a key role as part of
