Gender Diversity in Tech Internship

Melbourne, Australia Stile Education Full time

Are you interested in technology? Do you like science or solving puzzles? Are you curious about the way apps work, and interested in learning how to build them? Or perhaps you’re already a competent programmer wanting to take your skills to the next level?

Have you considered taking a gap year in 2025? What if you used it to learn to code professionally and got paid to do it?

Learning to code is massively empowering. Code is behind almost every piece of modern technology, from your phone to wind turbines. Code flies aeroplanes on autopilot and makes sure your fridge stays cold. Learning how to code is learning how to design the future. And here is the secret: It is something anyone can learn to do.

**In 2025, Stile is continuing our Software Engineering Internship for one young female identifying or non-binary person.**

You should be interested in learning to code and be passionate about science. You don’t need to be an expert coder already, we’ll work with you to get you up to a professional standard

This is a genuinely awesome opportunity to learn something new and experience what building apps is all about. You’ll get paid, you’ll work with a bunch of great people (including former interns) and you’ll have some fun too.

**What’s in it for you?**:
You’ll come to work every day with Stile’s enthusiastic, energetic design and engineering teams at our Melbourne CBD office. You’ll experience what it’s like to work with a highly creative team in a progressive workplace. You’ll learn how to code and work directly on apps that help kids learn about climate change, genetically modified foods, and a whole raft of other important global issues.

This could be your gap year before university, a gap year while you’re at university, or a gap year before skipping university and going straight into work. This is a fast-track program that will teach you everything you need to be a professional software engineer. At the end of the year you’ll be industry-ready, and know everything you need to build websites and apps.

**About Stile**:
If you want to know more about Stile, you should check out the “ Our why ” and “ Our team ” pages on our website. Don’t forget to check out our ‘ Meet the Stile team ’ video and 'Gender Diversity in STEM' too

**Why focus on gender diversity?**:
We recognise the importance of gender equality in strengthening our business operations and aim to specifically improve the gender balance of our workforce, particularly in professional roles, technical roles and leadership positions. We don’t think young women are given enough opportunities to shape our shared future - a future powered and defined by the technologies that today are mostly crafted by men.

That doesn’t sound right to us, and we want to do something about it.

These internships are open to young female-identifying and non-binary people. This opportunity qualifies as a ‘special measure’ under section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic).

**Internship Details**:

- This is a full-time paid position, so you’ll be working five days a week. Most of those days will be physically at Stile HQ on Exhibition Street in the city.
- We will provide you with a laptop and all the other bits and pieces you need to be set up and ready to code effectively during your internship.
- Internships will start early March 2025, and you’ll graduate at our end-of-year party sometime in mid December 2025.
- Throughout the year, you will be provided with ongoing training, professional development and mentoring.

**Training**

You’ll be doing two types of initial training in the first few weeks of your internship:

- You’ll complete an in-house coding course and work closely with mentors from Stile’s engineering team.
- You’ll complete an in-house course on the basics of working life. We cover topics like personal finance, running meetings, note-taking, priority management and more to ensure you are comfortable and confident in an office environment.
- After your initial training, you’ll join one of our project teams and be doing real work alongside our mentor engineers. You’ll get the opportunity to attend ongoing training and professional development throughout the year.

Just to be clear, the cost of training is covered by Stile.

**Mentoring**

We have about two dozen software engineers at Stile all from different walks of life. Some of them have been engineering for quite a long time, others are fresh in the business and some have graduated our intern program and were offered permanent roles at Stile.

You’ll be paired up with one mentor at a time, someone who will help you with your day-to-day and be your go to person. Your mentor will have daily check-ins with you and assist you with all the nitty-gritty at Stile.

On top of that, you’ll have a direct manager who sits on the Senior Engineering Team. Your direct manager will be someone who’s worked as a software engineer
