**Who we are**
The Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) is part of the Commonwealth Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. As primary agency for Australia's Antarctic Program (AAP), the AAD is responsible for achieving the Australian Government's Antarctic goals.

These goals are to:

- Maintain the Antarctic Treaty System and enhance Australia's influence within it.
- Protect the Antarctic environment.
- Understand the role of Antarctica in the global climate system.
- Undertake scientific work of practical, economic and national significance.

The AAD also has responsibility for administering the Australian Antarctic Territory and the Territory of Heard Island and McDonald Islands.

The People and Culture Branch supports our people and our culture. The branch has a strong focus on expeditioners (people who spend time working in Antarctica and Sub-Antarctica) including, expeditioner recruitment, onboarding, training, performance management, medical and organisational psychological services and offboarding. The branch also provides critical divisional services across media and communication, risk and business continuity.

The Polar Medicine Unit (PMU) delivers comprehensive healthcare services to Australia’s Antarctic Program. This is done by managing the recruitment and training of Antarctic medical and other healthcare personnel, the provision of medical supplies and logistics, and 24/7 telemedical support for Antarctic and sub-Antarctic stations, field programs, ships and aircraft; and the medical assessment of Australian Antarctic Program participants.

The PMU also conducts practical research on human adaptation to extreme Antarctic environments and the evidence base and innovation to deliver quality and safe healthcare. The PMU provides specialist remote and isolated medical support to a number of external state and Commonwealth agencies on a regular basis, and has an international profile and reputation for its world leading expertise amongst Antarctic nations.

**The Job**
The Medical Screening Coordinators will provide dynamic and extensive support to the Polar Medicine Unit and Australian Antarctic Program through the coordination of Antarctic medicals. Working both independently and under the direction of Head Office Medical Practitioners, this position will be responsible for the timely management of medical appointments and tests, follow up action and medical records management. This will be for a range of personnel including head office staff, Australian Antarctic Program expeditioners, external organisations and external Antarctic programs.

Under the general guidance of the Chief Medical Officer, the Medical Screening Coordinator will:

- Coordinate medical and adaptability arrangements for personnel participating in Australia’s Antarctic Program.
- Organise travel arrangements associated with testing arrangements.
- Follow up outstanding medical and adaptability tests and results.
- Liaise regularly with other members of the PMU and Corporate Services on medical and adaptability requirements and outcomes.
- Ensure the secure and confidential management of medical and adaptability records, including storage, access, reproduction, transfer, database update and archiving.
- Arrange payment of medical accounts and reimbursement from external agencies and individuals.
- Raise debit advice notices and maintain records of outstanding commitments.
- Ability to learn the processes associated with medical and adaptability testing for individuals participating in Australia’s Antarctic Program.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills; including the ability to deal with individuals on a range of sensitive and confidential matters.
- Well-developed coordination and organisational skills; as demonstrated by the capacity to meet regular deadlines, plan workloads in advance and balance competing priorities during peak workload periods.
