**The Role**:
We are seeking an Emergency Medicine Consultant/Staff Specialist to join a newly refurbished Emergency Medicine department, with all modern technology, in a beautiful sunny location.

The Hospital Emergency Department has two resus bays, three high dependency bays, 20 consult rooms, a Short Stay Unit and Fast Track area with three consult rooms.
- This coastal location is an hour and 20 minutes flight from Brisbane and two hours’ drive from the spectacular landscape of the Whitsundays._

**You will be expected to**:
Provide expert clinical services for the department within the Clinical Services Capability Framework for the facility, and within the clinical privileges formally granted to the Staff Specialist/Senior Staff Specialist from time to time.
Provide clinical supervision of the department and junior medical staff when rostered as the duty Senior Medical Officer.

Actively participate in in-service training programs, supervise, and teach junior medical staff, medical students, nursing, and paramedical staff as required.
Provide ethical decision making in the achievement of organisation goals.

The Emergency Department at sees a great number of attendances per annum, (approximately 25% paediatrics) with a diverse case mix including trauma. There is an active and successful postgraduate education and training program.
- To reflect the demand for health care in the region the Hospital has been redeveloped, at a cost of $408 million with a current bed capacity of 236 beds**The Hospital**:
Modern hospital providing trauma services, most major medical and surgical sub-speciality services.
- Support services such as Cardiac Cathlab and a 10 bed Short Stay Unit.
- A fully equipped medical library is available on site with a large collection of hard copy and online journals and textbooks.
- The hospital provides specialist services in obstetrics, gynaecology, paediatrics, thopaedics, psychiatry, urology and oncology and many other specialty areas. New services implemented in 2017 included ENT and a Step-Up Step-Down mental health service.
- The hospital is a digital hospital, equipped with leading edge technology to assist staff to provide the highest level of care and comfort to our patients. It is the first regional hospital in Queensland to have the complete integrated electronic medical record.**Location**:

**Skills/Qualifications**:

- High level of clinical knowledge, proficiency and skills extending across the broad range of Emergency Medicine, with an ability to work in relative isolation.
- Comprehensive and concise documentation of all clinical observations, opinions, diagnoses, other data and procedures undertaken.
