About us
The Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) is responsible for the supervision of children and young people in the Victorian criminal justice system.
Youth Justice oversees services responding to children and young people in the criminal justice system (both in custody and the community), providing strategic advice and delivering outcomes to address youth crime, reduce offending and support the rehabilitation of young people.
What does the Strategic Adviser do?
You will engage and work collaboratively with key stakeholders to provide high-quality, authoritative, and strategic advice to, and on behalf of, the Deputy Secretary, Youth Justice on complex policy and operational issues.

**This position will also involve**:

- managing a number of high-level and complex strategic projects for the Deputy Secretary, Youth Justice
- undertaking research, analysis, and evaluate service delivery options, to provide strategic advice on policy options and influence policy development
- interpreting broad policy and operational frameworks in order to develop contemporary, evidence-based policy solutions with significant organisational impact.

This role will work collaboratively with a Senior Executive Assistant and Business Support Officer to support the Deputy Secretary. You will be based in the Melbourne however travel to the regional Youth Justice Precincts may be required.
What skills should a Strategic Adviser have?
To be successful in this role you will have experience working at a senior level to support ministerial and departmental executive functions and Parliamentary and departmental processes.
- critical thinking and problem solving skills with the capacity to exercise sound judgement and the ability to take effective, timely action
- sound strategic planning skills, strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to operate at a senior level.

Understanding of the department's structure, responsibilities, climate, and culture including the issues and pressures to which the organisation must respond, as well as a tertiary qualification in public administration or similar discipline is also desirable.
