We are seeking a **two** Kaya Peer Worker to join our Choice South team

The Kaya Peer Worker role is often the first point for clients with Ruah Community services, engaging with people who are presenting for support e.g. Emergency Waiting Room. This role is a welcoming position that provides people with the information required to make informed choices of the supports available to them.

Promoting a culture of hope and optimism for personal recovery, a Kaya Peer Worker works alongside a client to identify their existing strengths and resources, as well as to support real choices and promote self-determination. The Kaya Peer Worker position follows the values and principles of Peer practice as outlined in both the National Lived Experience (Peer) guidelines, as well as the WA Framework for the Lived Experience (Peer) workforce.

This is a fixed-term position, until 30 June 2024 with an extension based on funding.

We recognise the unique and invaluable skillset Peers bring to clients and want to expand with your help Kaya Peers provide an understanding of the experience of living with a mental health challenge and assist people to connect, feel validated, and supported to strive for the recovery outcomes they hope to achieve. Whether it is supporting clients in the hospital waiting room or in the community, we work as one Ruah with an aim to transform people’s lives. It is expected that the successful applicant will be able to demonstrate the following:

- Willingness to identify as a person with Lived Experience working in a peer support role.
- Demonstrate a professional understanding of how Lived Experience informs work as a Peer.
- Experience working in a similar or community work setting.
- Openness to continuous quality improvement and learning in this role.
- A strong understanding of Trauma Informed Practice principles and ability to implement this in day-to-day practice with colleagues and clients.
- Ability to work independently with a high level of reliability and contribute to the functioning of the team
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Good interpersonal and de-escalation skills.
- Ability to model personal wellbeing, safe professional boundaries and positive unconditional regard for the people you are supporting
- Understanding of computer skills including Microsoft Office and client reporting system.
- Knowledge and understanding of diversity, gender and social inclusion, particularly Aboriginal culture.

**Required Compliance Documents**:

- Current drivers’ license
- Working with Children Check
- National Police Certificate
- Hospital required vaccinations
