**About the Role**

**Essential Requirements**
- Working with Children Check Clearance
- Completion of mandatory training required by the Department of Education to undertake first aid, administration of medications and health care procedures training.

**Selection Criteria**:

- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to work with students with emotional, physical or intellectual disabilities.
- Awareness of the needs of students with emotional, physical or intellectual disabilities.

Effective communication skills.

Newcastle Midde School, located in Waratah, is part of a unique SSP model in NSW across 3 school sites (Middle, Junior and Senior), each with its own site principal, executive team, staff of special education teachers, SLSO/SLHealth staff, GA, office administration personnel and a Lead Principal role as part of this SSP model leadership team. Newcastle Middle School has strong partnerships with our school community and staff take pride in all students being ‘known, valued and cared for’, proudly offering a holistic approach to deliver the highest quality wellbeing programs and educative outcomes for every student while guiding them through early adolescent years. We currently have 5 permanent SLHealth and 2 general SLSO positions in our permanent staffing entitlements. The school has 41 students enrolled in 7 classes across Years 5 to 8 who have moderate to severe intellectual disabilities and high level/ongoing learning support needs. Many of our students have other complex needs including health and medical needs; autism; physical disability; communication, vision and/or hearing impairments; sensory processing issues and challenging behaviours. Working collaboratively with families, carers, allied health, medical and wellbeing professionals, the school develops Individual Behaviour Support Plans and Health Care Plans and negotiates Individual Learning Plans/Personalised Learning Pathways for each student.
