The Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) has diverse responsibilities for transport systems and services, infrastructure planning and provision within South Australia.

**Duties**
The Marine Safety Officer is accountable to the Unit Manager, Marine Compliance for state-wide water-based and land-based patrols to assess compliance with the standards required under boating legislation and relevant Codes of Practice. The role is to ensure vessels are safe and comply with legislative requirements, undertaking education, enforcement, and deterrent action where vessels are operating in breach of relevant legislation. This includes detections of breaches of legislation and the coordination of timely and effective investigations into reported incidents.

The Marine Safety Officer contributes to the development of strategic initiatives that provide for the safe use of South Australian waters for recreational and other aquatic activities. The incumbent should have relevant knowledge of boating safety principles, experience in interpreting legislation, and comprehensive knowledge of government policy, procedures and administrative law processes including investigation techniques and compiling prosecution briefs of evidence.

**Requirements**:
A current Driver's Licence is essential.

Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal Certificate of Competency - highly desirable.

Experience interpreting legislation, investigation techniques, compiling persecution briefs and comprehensive knowledge of government policy, procedures and administrative law processes and practices - desirable.

Certificate IV in Government Investigations - desirable.

**Special Conditions**

Normal hours of duty will be 150 hours to be worked over a four (4) week period including a minimum of 26 weekends (26 Saturdays and 26 Sundays) and six (6) public holidays per year for which a penalty rates will apply.

Some intra/interstate travel requiring overnight stays, may be required.

**Tenure of Vacancy**
Temporary appointment up to 12 months.

Multiple vacancies in Adelaide metro and Port Lincoln.

**Remuneration**
OPS4 - $75,430 to $79,070 per annum
