Applications are invited from Senior Medical Practitioners for the role of Director Intensive Care Services (ICS), Westmead Hospital. The appointment of Director ICS will be held concurrently with appointment as ICS Staff Specialist.
Western Sydney Local Health District is responsible for the provision of health services to the local government area comprised of Auburn, Baulkham Hills, Blacktown, Holroyd, and Parramatta and tertiary care. These services are provided through a number of hospital and community-based facilities located strategically across the District.
Western Sydney Local Health District is committed to achieving continuous quality improvement in client services within a Quality Management framework, with a supporting Strategic Plan aimed at the continuous improvement of all facilities. The District has individual facilities located at Westmead, Cumberland, Auburn, Blacktown and Mount Druitt.
Westmead Intensive Care Service is the referral ICU for Western Sydney, with a large general and post cardiac surgical patient throughput. The ICS admits critically ill trauma, neurosurgery, medical and surgical patients. Westmead ICS incorporates a 36-bed general ICU, and a 10-bed Cardiothoracic ICU.
Successful applicants will be a specialist in intensive care medicine holding FCICM. They must have sound clinical knowledge and experience of working in similar intensive care units. They are expected to have excellent communication and leadership skills, non-clinical and administrative experience required for a large intensive care unit. Applicant must be willing to contribute to the ICS clinical roster, and non-clinical workload of the service as directed by the head of department.
**Selection Criteria**:
- Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the college of Intensive Care Medicine as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award.
- Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency.
- Sound clinical knowledge in Intensive Care Medicine demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position
- Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:
- o High level interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and evidence-based best practice.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching and supervision
- Demonstrated commitment to supervision and teaching, including simulation-based training.
- Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied, or clinical research within the Department. Demonstrated interest and experience in critical care research.
- A minimum of one year experience as an intensive care specialist.
- It is desirable to have demonstrated interest and experience in one or more of the following clinical areas:
- Neuro-critical care
- Rapid response systems and telehealth
- Bioethics and palliative care
- Extra-corporeal life support
