**The Team**

The Fraud Investigations Unit forms a part of the AEC’s Defending Democracy Unit and undertakes fraud and corruption control activities for the AEC, including governance, enterprise risks, awareness, reporting and investigations related to corporate fraud and fraud against the Commonwealth Electoral Act (the Act) 1918.

The Fraud Investigations Unit (FIU) manages day-to-day matters relating to electoral integrity and the integrity of the electoral roll. The overall aim of the FIU is to support the AEC in preventing, detecting and dealing with fraud and corruption.

**The Opportunities**

We are looking for an energetic and motivated people to join the Fraud Investigations Unit. The successful applicant will have exceptional communication skills in order to develop and maintain key internal and external relationships, including collaborating with key stakeholders to identify opportunities, achieve outcomes and facilitate cooperation.

Working with a dynamic team, Investigations Officers undertake analysis and investigations relating to threats to the integrity of electoral processes and in particular the integrity of the electoral roll. Investigations Officer’s also undertake analysis and investigation into allegations of corporate fraud matters within the AEC. The role can include undertaking complex and/or sensitive work under broad direction. Investigations Officer’s also have a significant role in promoting fraud awareness across the AEC.

You will have the opportunity to contribute to the 2024-25 federal election where the volume of requests for advice and matters, along with the urgency to resolve matters, will increase significantly.

Given the nature of the work, the operational requirements of such positions within the DDU generally require work in person in Canberra covering standard business hours. During federal electoral events different work patterns will be necessary to cover the AEC's expanded work demands.

**Investigations Officer/ Assistant**

As Investigations Officers in the FIU, you will investigate corporate fraud matters along with analysis and investigation into electoral integrity issues to continually assess the integrity of the electoral roll.

You will collaborate with key stakeholders including business areas across the agency, state electoral commissions and the Australian Federal Police.

You will work to improve the AEC’s fraud control and anti-corruption capabilities including governance, risk management assessments and research. You will also undertake engagement activities to raise fraud awareness and anti-corruption across the agency and provide professional, accurate and timely assistance to meet the reporting obligations of the FIU.

To excel you’ll have:

- Mandatory_
- Certificate IV in Government (Fraud Control and Investigations) or equivalent qualification in accordance with the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 and the Commonwealth Fraud Control Framework.
- Proven analytical abilities maintaining a logical and rational approach under pressure and in the face of competing priorities.
- Broad understanding of contemporary compliance processes and practices and experience in leading compliance reviews.
- Good written communications skills supporting an ability to produce quality reports and briefs.
- Ability to identify opportunities for continuous improvement to achieve quality outcomes.
- The ability to make sound judgements based on thorough research, problem solving, innovation and evidence-based practice, to achieve the objectives of the Fraud Investigations Unit.
- Investigations Officer/ Assistant (additional requirements)_
- High level investigation skills including the ability to identify likely breaches, and gather, analyse and present evidence.
- Previous experience in conducting interviews and preparing statements and affidavits.
- Desirable_
- Knowledge of, or ability to, quickly gain knowledge of Australian electoral law and practice.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Commonwealth frameworks, including Resource Management.
