**About the Role**

The overall purpose of the Technical Manager (Health and Biomedicine) is to manage and coordinate the activities undertaken in the Health and Biomedical laboratories and associated facilities and to manage the day to day duties of the technical support staff. To ensure the provision of laboratory services to students and staff which facilitate the achievement of high quality learning research and community engagement experiences. To maintain a high standard of OHS compliance for the laboratories, facilities and to oversee the systems and processes that govern the relevant spaces.

The position ensures that all teaching, research and consulting activities within these laboratories (located at campuses in St Albans, Footscray Park and WCHRE - Sunshine) operate efficiently and effectively.

**About the Person**

You will be working in the Technical Services department at Victoria University. The department is a shared service providing support to the University Colleges, Research Institutes and Victoria University Polytechnic (VU’s TAFE division). This role provides services into all sectors as required. Your experience and knowledge of the Health and Biomedical disciplines, along with your commitment to providing a positive student experience will assist you in delivering on Victoria University’s vision to empower a diverse community of students, to grow their capabilities and transform their lives.

**Duties**

An example of duties you may perform will include:

- Manage all policies, procedures and activities (teaching, research and external engagement) that govern and are undertaken in the Health and Biomedicine suites of laboratories within the College of Health and Biomedicine.
- Ensure all facilities and equipment are well-maintained, with appropriate quality assurance for teaching, research and consultancy activities.
- Identify, assess, prioritise and manage risks to the health and safety of staff, students, visitors and contractors to the environment arising from the operation of the area under their responsibility, and ensure that a safe system of work is developed and followed through appropriate training, supervision and monitoring in line with the OHS Plan.
- In consultation with relevant stakeholders, develop, review and manage Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) and Biosafety policies specific to the Health and Biomedicine laboratories.
- Conduct laboratory audits and inspections as required to ensure compliance with Australian Standards, University policies and laboratory safety procedures.
