Our trainee Financial Counsellors provide basic financial counselling to clients and communities. This position is an opportunity to transition into financial counselling role whilst studying Diploma in Financial Counselling.
Moneycare is The Salvation Army’s national financial counselling and financial capability program. It is one of the largest and long-running such programs in Australia. Our evidence-based outcomes measurement process shows that we have a real impact on the lives of the people who come to us seeking assistance through materially improved mental health, personal well-being and financial resilience, including financial hardship alleviation. Moneycare has a focus on holistic, strengths-based services that are professional, caring, and missional.
Our Financial Counsellors provide financial counselling to clients and conduct thorough assessment processes that ensures that clients receive a prompt and efficient service. Integrate this with state-wide telephone financial counselling service (Moneycare).
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a trainee financial counsellor to provide a holistic financial counselling and advocacy service to people in financial difficulty or crisis which recognises the ways in which other life issues may interact with personal financial issues, considers the clients’ unique circumstances, their financial history and financial behaviours.
Other responsibilities include:
- Conduct group community education (financial literacy/capability) sessions where appropriate and in consultation with the Moneycare Manager with a view to helping people build longer-term capability, manage their money better and make informed choices
- Operate the local Moneycare practice with autonomy but within TSA and Moneycare policy and procedure, managing own scheduling, case load and reporting of statistical data.
ABOUT YOU
- Willingness to undertake Diploma of Community Services - Financial Counselling or just commenced Diploma of Financial Counselling.
- Minimum of 2 years experience in a similar role
- Accreditation as a Financial Counsellor (member of FCAN) or be willing to attain accreditation as soon as possible.
- Knowledge of the relevant legislation and information pertaining to financial issues or any other para legal experience.
- Demonstrated high level interpersonal, active listening and analytical skills.
- Proficiency working within a Windows Office environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work with different cultures and backgrounds.
- Demonstrated money management and negotiation skills
- Demonstrated ability to work with people suffering difficulties and crisis.
- Demonstrated ability to work within a counselling framework is highly regarded
- Clear Working with Children Check NSW
- A willingness to undergo a National Police Check

ABOUT YOU
