**About the role**:
We are looking for a hands-on and proactive team player who will provide laboratory testing procedures including molecular assays for infectious diseases which include supporting research and development of tests used in public health surveillance and innovative delivery of pathology services. The new holder will also perform flow cytometry Analysis, microscopic Image analysis, NGS (Next generation Sequencing) Analysis and conduct standard peripheral blood mononuclear cell cultures.

The position holder will assist research involving HIV-1 and HIV-2 detection using molecular biology for development of a possible diagnostic assay in the future. Accurate and consistent experimental technique, following standard operating procedures, is the most important factor in this position. Duties will include managing project logistics, performing assays, management of laboratory consumables and facilities in accordance with the project.

Expected hours are Monday to Friday 08:30 - 17:00 with occasional extended hours depending on circumstances.

**Selection Criteria**:

2. Tertiary qualification in Health or Life Sciences or equivalent, and/or relevant experience.
3. Previous experience in a health research laboratory environment with experience with serology and nucleic acid amplication based assays for blood borne virus and sexually transmissible infections.
4. Demonstrated ability to follow direction, manage time, work independently, multi-task and prioritise workloads within a complex environment.
5. Demonstrated proficiency in conducting molecular biology analyses.
6. Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills including preparation of data for presentation including publication with a demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development
7. Demonstrated computer literacy including Microsoft Word, Excel, Statistical, PowerPoint and Outlook including basic data management and statistical analyses used in public health research
8. Knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) processes relevant to a healthcare setting
