About the role

An opportunity is open for a clinical research fellow with an interest in colorectal surgery onsite at Eastern Health. This position is partly funded by a Medtronic research grant to Eastern Health. The fellow’s primary role is to provide a link between developing a research concept and conducting the clinical study relevant to clinical practice and the role would include:
a) Develop new research goals and ideas in conjunction with their supervisor and the conduct of research projects already in progress as well as the supervision of junior medical staff with an interest in research

b) Surgical assisting for 3 to 4 lists per week on a yet to be determined rostered basis which will supplement the income (expected to be in excess of $40,000)

c) Training in anorectal physiology and anorectal ultrasound as part of the pelvic floor clinic on a weekly basis (3.5 hours) ?

d) Sharing of clinical duties with the training Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia? and New Zealand Clinical Fellow.
- 1 in 3 weekend rounds
- On call for colorectal emergencies 1 in 3 with the clinical fellow
- Endoscopy and operating lists at Box Hill and Maroondah Hospital
- 4 public operating lists per fortnight at Maroondah Hospital

e) Conduct and organisation of junior medical staff training in basic surgical skills, laparoscopy and endoscopy

**Selection Criteria**:
Applicants must hold a FRACS or equivalent and or be eligible to be registered as a specialist general surgeon in Australia and have an interest in colorectal surgery.
