The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking an Executive Assistant to provide a critical role within Aboriginal Justice.
This is a prioritised role for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, who will be given priority consideration as per the special measures provision of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010.
About the Business Unit
The Aboriginal Justice Group of the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) is committed to driving systemic change in the justice system, to connect, support and deliver better outcomes for the Aboriginal community. The group works in partnership with Traditional Owners and the Victorian Aboriginal community to embed the principles of self-determination in the justice sector.
The Stolen Generations Reparations Unit (SGRU) was established to implement the Reparations Package to help address the trauma and suffering caused by the forced removal of Aboriginal children from their families, culture and Country.
About the Role
The Executive Assistant will report to the Executive Director Aboriginal Partnerships and Programs. The Executive Assistant will work in a team with and provide leadership to Branch Support Coordinators in both the Koori Justice Unit and the Stolen Generations Reparations Unit.
The Executive Assistant will play a critical and central role in building and supporting a positive organisational culture. This will require the Executive Assistant to work collaboratively with colleagues, policy and program/project officers, and senior executive across the branch, group, and department.
**Some of your duties will include**:
- Provide high quality assurance, review and tracking of briefs and correspondence, liaising with business areas as required.
- Arrange and provide executive support to meetings, including the coordination and distribution of meeting papers and the preparation of meeting agendas and minutes.

About you
**To be successful in this role, you will have**:
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal communities, society and culture and the issues impacting on these.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal communities.
- Demonstrated experience as an Executive Assistant to senior management within a highly
- sensitive and dynamic environment.
- Demonstrated ability to analyse issues and determine priorities in an environment of tight and conflicting deadlines, to take initiative and work under limited direction.
- Ability to use (or rapidly learn to use) the DJCS Electronic Briefing and Correspondence (EBC) System or similar, TRIM document management system or similar and other software tools.
