Local Gov client seeking experienced Workers Compensation Claims Officer | $49.95 p/h + Super | Brisbane CBD

Hays is assisting a local government client based in Brisbane CBD who is seeking an experienced Claims Officer to join the team on a contractual basis commencing asap until 31/07/2023 (with possibility of extension).

**Your new role**

The primary purpose of this position is to effectively and efficiently manage a wide range of statutory claims within local government, ensuring the self-insurer's compliance with Q-COMP legislation and standards.

Reporting to the Workers' Compensation Manager, the Claims Officer is responsibile but not limited to the following duties:

- Assisting in the assessment and managing workers' compensation statutory claims in accordance to best-practice standards
- Assisting clients to develop strategies to manage workers' compensation liabilities and to improve their workers' compensation performance
- Maintaining compliance with systems and procedures for workers' compensation
- Providing ongoing education and information in relation to workers' compensation. Contributing to and supporting team activities to enhance achievement of team goals
- Providing consultancy services to business units and divisions to assist in development of Zero Harm strategies and in the workplace health and safety agenda
- Providing dedicated customer service by making sure the needs and aspirations of customers are understood and that they are addressed with honesty, fairness, sensitivity and dignity even when the outcome is unable to fully meet the customer expectations.

**What you'll need to succeed**
- Sound experience and working knowledge of Queensland Workers' Compensation and other relevant legislation, particularly as it relates to the administration and management of statutory claims
- Sound experience to plan, coordinate and prioritise tasks and manage a caseload in order to meet deadlines in a self-managed environment
- Proven oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively negotiate with internal and external clients
- Ability to represent local government in a professional manner to outside agencies
- Proven analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to work either individually or as part of a team to meet prescribed outcomes
- Well-developed computer skills, particularly in relation to such software as Windows Applications, Microsoft Office and software applicable to workers' compensation.
