We are seeking an APS 5 Content Writer to work in the Community Engagement’s Portal Team.

The Portal Team manages the design, development, maintenance and promotion of the Anzac Portal website. The website delivers commemorative, historical and educational resources to share with the broader community, to raise awareness of the diverse experiences of Australian military service.

The Portal Team supports others in Community Engagement and the wider department to deliver digital components of their commemorative work, providing user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design, Drupal development, content strategy, content development, social media and professional guidance on website matters. The Portal Team also distributes the monthly Anzac Portal newsletter, responds to user feedback, and plans and delivers digital content projects to improve user experience on the website.

Under supervision of the Senior Content Strategist, you will be responsible for the provision of specialist content and digital marketing support within the Portal Team and across Community Engagement.

As a content writer with at least one year of experience, you will create and edit human-centred digital text. You will conduct research around topics and audiences, identify content gaps, use search engine optimisation (SEO), style guides and accessibility guidelines. You may have some specialist skills in technical, scientific or instructional writing or simplifying complex information for optimal consumption by users.

You will be able to demonstrate excellent oral and written communication, good research skills, proficient editing experience and be able to manage a variety of competing demands.

A tertiary qualification related to communication is desirable for this role. Specialist training in content writing and editing is desirable for this role.

**Duties**
- Contribute to the team’s work in creating, reviewing and updating content for the website, to increase the community’s understanding of Australian military service and reflect the diverse experiences of Australian veterans
- Help plan a monthly newsletter, and maintain its subscription list
- Collaborate and engage with internal and external stakeholders to promote and improve DVA's commemorative, history and educational offerings on the website
- Collaborate and engage with Community Engagement and other DVA staff to deliver commemorative products and information that help Australians commemorate Anzac Day and Remembrance Day in their local communities
- Manage competing priorities and projects with fixed deadlines (e.g. tied to commemorative anniversaries), while producing high-quality and accurate content and communication products
- Ensure projects meet all financial and administrative regulations (e.g. contracts and procurement is in accordance with appropriate requirements and invoices paid correctly)
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to respond to BAU requests for information and resources
- Work with Community Engagement staff and build capability as required
- Research and prepare ministerial correspondence including briefings, submissions and general correspondence
- Assist with administrative tasks to support the work of the team and branch as required.

**Eligibility**
- Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS).
- All applicants external to DVA offered employment will be required to successfully undergo a pre-engagement screening check, even if they have a security clearance. The screening check is conducted in accordance with the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework requirements.

**Notes**

Where a non-ongoing position is offered, the role will be filled for an initial specified term of up to 23 months.

A merit pool of suitable applicants may be created which may be used to fill future ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies should they become available over the next 18 months.
