You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following key capabilities, knowledge and experience. Within the context of the responsibilities described above under 'Your key responsibilities', the ideal applicant will be someone who can demonstrate the following:
- Proven ability to solve problems and show initiative in the workplace.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively use computerised systems
- Experience in pre-analytical processes and excellent troubleshooting abilities in a large and complex specimen reception unit.
- Demonstrated ability to arrange in-service training and continuing educational programs for Specimen Reception staff and delivery of training programs for changes in Standard Operating Procedures or equipment.
- Proven ability to manage time effectively in a highly process driven environment with competing priorities
- Ability to plan and prioritise to effectively manage the customer service function in alignment with the overall strategic plan of the Department.
Qualifications, registrations and other requirements
- Mandatory Qualifications: Nil
- Whilst not mandatory, it is desirable to hold a Certificate III in Pathology (Laboratory Assistance) or equivalent, would be well regarded.
- Central Specimen Reception delivers a 24-hour, 7-day service. In this workplace, all newly appointed staff can be contracted to work any rostered shift within the 24-hour 7-day roster period, including overtime as required. This facilitates the progressive review of staffing and shift arrangements in the laboratory to accommodate changes in workload and service requirements.

Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) requirements
- It will be a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against one or more of the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: Hepatitis A & B, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis, Rubella and Varicella.
- Additional vaccinations including Japanese Encephalitis and Rabies may also be required for this position.
