**About the role**

Family and Child Connect (FaCC) services have been established across Queensland to support families who are at risk of entering or re-entering the child protection system.

FaCC are local, community-based services that help families to care for and protect their children at home, by connecting them to the right services at the right time. Broadly, the FaCC will:

- Assess the information they receive with a focus on the safety and protection of the children in the family
- Provide advice where appropriate
- Make contact with the family to discuss the concerns
- Assess the type and level of support required
- Refer the family to services to assist them, including Intensive Family Support services, and
- Support a Local Level Alliance (LLA) of government and non-government services within the community to ensure that vulnerable families receive the right mix of services.

As a Child & Family Practitioner with FaCC, you will undertake an initial assessment of family strengths and needs, determine an appropriate referral pathway for the family to help them achieve their goals, and follow up with services to ensure successful engagement. Typically we engage with families on a short term basis (6 weeks).

**Duties**
- Conduct initial assessments of a family’s strengths and needs identifying their main goals
- Identify and make appropriate referrals based on the goals; and follow up with services
- Provide information and advice to families based on their individual circumstances
- Assess and manage child protection risks for families
- Liaise with key stakeholders in the community
- Keep accurate and timely documentation of all client interactions and related tasks

**Skills and Experience**

As an experienced Child & Family Practitioner you will have a relevant tertiary degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services or similar and:

- A minimum of 12 months case management experience working with at risk children, young people and/or families in a child protection focused role, including experience undertaking comprehensive assessments is essential
- Excellent understanding of child protection issues and client vulnerabilities such as drug and alcohol use, domestic violence, mental health issues, and the impact of trauma and the effect on child behaviour and development, along with experience identifying and addressing child protection concerns
- An understanding of the needs of diverse communities such as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) and LGBTIQ + communities
- Strong organisation skills, time management skills, IT skills and ability to use technology in service delivery
- Ability to multi-task and prioritise in a fast paced environment, ever changing environment
- Ability to work unsupervised and remotely
- High level of professional accountability and integrity and a belief that every parent has potential
- A Current driver’s license
