**About the role**:
Are you passionate about driving the growth and prosperity of vibrant communities? As the Manager of Economic & Cultural Development, you'll be accountable for providing strategic leadership to foster a strong, vibrant local economy in the City of Geelong. This role involves promoting investment opportunities, facilitating industry and cultural growth, attracting major events, and leading the City's UNESCO City of Design designation. You'll collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including industry groups, local businesses, cultural and creative organisations, and government entities, to position Geelong regionally, nationally, and on the world stage.

**Work type: Temporary, full-time (5-year contract)**

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Developing a compelling vision and goals for the team, fostering an inclusive and accountable culture.
- Providing operational leadership, coaching, and support to team members to ensure their success and development.
- Collaborating with stakeholders to provide strategic advice on industry opportunities, partnerships, and funding.
- Developing and integrating departmental initiatives and business plans aligned with the directorate's strategy.
- Managing departmental resources and budget planning to ensure effective operations and performance tracking.
- Fostering a culture of continuous improvement, compliance, and risk management to deliver quality.
- Leading strategic initiatives to stimulate economic and cultural growth, including business development, event management, and arts & cultural projects.
- Cultivating partnerships with key stakeholders to drive collaboration and support department priorities.
- Providing expert advice to internal and external stakeholders on economic and cultural development initiatives.

**Selection Criteria**:

- Tertiary qualification in economic development, business, marketing, or related field.
- Demonstrated senior leadership experience.
- Proven ability to develop strategic relationships and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience in business planning, budget management, and complex reporting.

Highly Desirable:

- Experience working in a complex political environment.
- Background in creative industries or arts & culture sector.
- Demonstrated commercial acumen and industry network building.
