**Who we are**
We are the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. We lead Australia’s response to climate change and sustainable energy use, and help protect our environment, heritage, and water. We provide advice to the Australian Government around climate, energy, and the environment, and administer legislation. The department also enforce laws relating to the protection of the environment and biodiversity, wildlife, fuel quality and greenhouse gas storage.

We deliver policies and programs to:

- help address climate change and build a more innovative, future ready energy system,
- help protect, restore, and manage Australia’s land and ocean environment and heritage,
- improve the health of our rivers and freshwater ecosystems and manage Australia’s water resources for industry and regional communities.
- advance Australia’s interests in the Antarctic and Southern Ocean.

**About the Division**
People Division, led by the Chief People Officer, provides human resources (HR) functions for the department with a clear focus on its most valued asset: its staff. Alongside contemporary HR functions, projects and strategies, People Division is also responsible for:

- enhancing the department’s focus on safety,
- enterprise bargaining,
- cultural and change management, and
- the department’s response to APS Reforms.

**About the Branch**
People Branch is responsible for the department’s strategic and operational HR advice, strategies and support services, with a focus on enabling business areas to meet their workforce needs.

People Branch is responsible for:

- Inclusion,
- Learning and Development and Talent Management,
- Onboarding and SAP Payroll,
- Recruitment and Employment Programs,
- SES Unit,
- Workforce Planning, HR Reporting and Establishments, and
- Workplace relations (including enterprise bargaining).

**About the role**
As the Branch Head leading the People Branch, you will be responsible for providing strategic and operational HR advice, guidance and leadership to stakeholders operating in unique and complex environments.

Your duties will include but are not limited to:

- Providing high level advice and support to Senior Executive and the department to ensure legislative obligations, departmental priorities and objectives are met.
- Leading, delivering and/or implementing various HR Strategies and Frameworks including but not limited to the People Strategy, Inclusion Strategy, Workforce Plan and a Capability Framework.
- Overseeing the coordination of the department’s enterprise agreement bargaining and other HR internal working groups and committees.
- Engaging with key external and departmental committees, forums, and meetings and forming productive working relationships with key stakeholders.
- Leading your branch and teams while actively building effective, robust and collaborative relationships and capabilities.
- Promoting integrity practices by displaying a high level of ethical behaviour in accordance with the APS Code of Conduct, APS Values and APS Employment Principles.
