**About Strategy and Culture, University Museums and Collections**
The Museums and Collection Department aims to build a collaborative and flexible network around the University’s cultural assets to enable students, staff members local and global communities to gain knowledge and understanding of contemporary and traditional cultures, scientific discovery and creative practice.

**About the Role**
As the Collection Manager, Rights and Permissions, you will review and renew existing rights agreements for objects held in the collections managed by the Museums and Collections Department and objects held in temporary custody through contracted loan agreements. This is to ensure appropriate copyright and intellectual property rights permissions are obtained for visual and other material published by the Museums and Collections Department for use in its exhibitions, projects and programs.

You will respond to licensing inquiries from external clients and assist staff across the Museums and Collections Department with copyright issues. You will also take responsibility for practical delivery of photography projects which access and digitally reproduce collection objects.

Responsibilities include:

- Seek and negotiate copyright permission and clearances for images, video and other material for publishing and communication purposes
- Liaise with Object Lenders, Journal and Books Publishers, Editorial Assistants, Editors in Chief and Production Editors regarding copyright and permissions issues
- Undertake a status review of existing licences relating to Museums and Collections Department collection objects and develop and implement a plan to address identified needs
- Assist the Head of Collections Management in the development of a Department Copyright Protocol and take responsibility for the creation and implementation of associated procedures and guidelines

**About You**
You will have good communication skills including the ability to liaise with external stakeholders. You will also bring high-level analytical skills and attention to detail.

You will bring demonstrated organisational ability, research and negotiation skills, including the ability to meet budgets and deadlines.

You will also have:

- A relevant qualification with subsequent relevant experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training, preferably in the cultural sector
- Current knowledge of the publishing industry I and associated information management and image metadata management practices
- Experience assessing and responding to publishing related inquiries, or relevant similar experience in a public facing role
- Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office products, Photoshop and digital asset management systems
- Working knowledge of Collection Management databases such as EMu or Vernon
- Demonstrated experience with handling museum collection objects
