The Chief Health Officer Division is looking for a motivated and suitably qualified and experienced medical officer to support the Chief Health Officer. The Deputy Chief Health Officer (DCHO) is responsible for leading the Health Branch by setting the strategic direction of the clinical adviser workforce, clinical governance, clinical risk management and quality improvement activities within a complex operating environment.

DCHO is supported by a Medical Officer Class 4 (MO4) in leading a team of contracted medical and allied health advisers. The role of the clinical adviser is to provide evidence based advice to DVA business areas to assist veterans and their families in gaining access to benefits within DVA legislative framework and undertake education and quality assurance activities.

**Duties**
- Support the Chief Health Officer with the Department’s activities in health care, rehabilitation, compensation, and commemoration through the provision of expert advice on clinical and health related matters, including research issues related to the Department’s activities.
- Represent the Department in consultations, engagements and presentations with health care provider professional organisations and Australian Government departments.
- Provide management oversight of the Department’s clinical advisers (medical and allied health) within the health branch and APS staff facilitating provider engagement activities.
- Contribute to the Department’s strategic reform agenda, particularly in the areas of health care and rehabilitation.
- Support the Department’s business through expertise in health stakeholder relationships, service provision and clinical issues.
- Provide expert clinical advice to the department on individual complex cases.
- Maintain currency of professional skills through clinical engagement.

**Eligibility**
- Medical Officers at this level must have a medical degree and registered with AHPRA.
- Specialist qualification with an appropriate College (e.g. RACGP, ACCRM, RACMA, RACP, FAFOEM etc).
- Relevant post-graduate qualifications or equivalent experience are desirable.
- Medical Officers must maintain registration as a medical practitioner.

**Notes**

Interviews will not be held until the first week of May 2023.

A merit pool will be established that may be used to fill similar positions (ongoing/non-ongoing) within the next 18 months.
