This is an exciting and valuable opportunity for an** Project Officer** to join the Department of Communities and Justice within Office of Senior Practitioner, Aboriginal Culture in Practice Unit in a role targeted for Aboriginal people.

**The role**

This role involves being part of an Aboriginal Led and an Aboriginal all-inclusive team.

The team provides leadership, advice and support across DCJ divisions in designing and implementing culturally responsive and culturally effective strategies to improve service design and service delivery Aboriginal children, young people, families and communities.

The team works across DCJ divisions, districts, non-government stakeholders and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to form positive and productive partnerships to develop and implement culturally adaptive and innovative approaches to improve outcomes for Aboriginal children, young people, families and communities.

The team provides support to and advocacy for the Aboriginal Staff Network of the OSP.

The team also provides practice support to support DCJ to be responsive to practice issues for Aboriginal children, young people families as they arise.

**What you’ll do**

As a **Project Officer** in the ACiP, you will have a hands-on diverse role, you will need to utilise your strong communication and interpersonal skills. Experience in building relationships; bringing your expertise in your influencing and inspiring abilities; you will share your valuable knowledge, wisdom and understanding of Aboriginal societies and culture, to consult and collaborate on cultural appropriate strategies, including the ability to communicate effectively and sensitively about the issues affecting Aboriginal children, young people, families and communities.

You will play a pivotal role in designing and delivering of key initiatives as well as a range of projects, activities, workshops and events, that address the issue of the over-representation of Aboriginal children and young people in the Child Protection system in NSW, enhance and improve the practice and overall service delivery provided by DCJ to Aboriginal children, young people, families and communities.

In order to achieve this you will need to do undertake the following duties;
- Work with Aboriginal Senior Project Officers to support and contribute to projects on a range of topics for practice change initiatives and matters related to improving outcomes for Aboriginal children, young people, families
- Work with Aboriginal Senior Project Officers to support and contribute to projects and activities of key child protection system reform and change initiatives from a cultural perspective ensuring Aboriginal cultural considerations are appropriately reflected and addressed
- Be part of stakeholder engagement and collaboration activities with internal and external people, including Aboriginal staff, which will require you collaborating with Aboriginal people and knowledge holders, groups and agencies and provide feedback as required
- Undertake research to help inform evidenced based approaches to project work and initiatives undertaken to improve service delivery, decision making and outcomes for Aboriginal children, young people, families and communities.
- Provide consultation advice, support and feedback to the project team
- Provide cultural guidance and advice on issues relating to DCJ’s work with Aboriginal children, young people, families and communities as well as other Aboriginal cultural considerations
- Manage your own work and contribute to the work of a small, busy hybrid team across multiple projects and activities
