**About the Role**
The People and Learning team at Mater currently have an exciting and rewarding opportunity for an experienced and professional **Principal Medical Education Officer **to join the Medial Education Unit. This will be a **Permanent full-time** role.
Mater Education focuses on achieving excellence using best practice and simulation-based education support, and strategies that facilitate a professional learning environment where everyone at Mater learn and thrive together. Mater Education contributes to the continual improvement in the safety and quality of patient care and experience through effective integration with health and research.
The Medical Education Unit at Mater in South Brisbane are responsible for managing all medical education and workforce functions for Junior Medical Staff at Mater in South Brisbane. This includes advertising, recruitment, onboarding, roster and leave management, performance management and pastoral care as well as education, training and learning requirements. All you must do is look at the AMAQ Hospital Health Check survey each year to see the high quality and valued service we deliver to our Junior Doctors year on year.
**What you’ll be doing**
The Principal Medical Education Officer (PMEO) role will work as part of the Mater Education team to provide educational expertise and leadership in the delivery of medical education to prevocational and vocational medical staff, while ensuring ongoing training and accreditation requirements are met.
- You will provide educational expertise to the State-wide Medical Education and Workforce Unit
- Ensure the maintenance of high standards within the Mater Hospitals educational program for prevocational medical officers
- Ensure ongoing compliance with accreditation standards and requirements.
- Provide high level, expert and strategic advice on key junior medical training, and education issues to the Director Clinical Education, Director Clinical Training, Directors of Medical Services and Executive officers
- Lead the process of centralised governance of accreditation requirements in collaboration with local facilities and Hospital & Health Service (HHS)
- Manage the relationships with QHealth hospitals and health services medical education units in Brisbane and Central Queensland
**About you**
To be successful in this role you will possess the following qualifications, skills and experience:
- Possession of a Bachelor degree in Adult Education, Health or related discipline, or a Tertiary clinical qualification
- Possession of a higher qualification or working towards a higher qualification in Adult Education, Health or related discipline
- High level of interpersonal communication skills with ability to work independently and collaboratively across a broad range of professional levels and streams
- Previous work experience as a clinician (desirable)
- Research and analytical skills
- Understanding of AMC standards for Intern Training and of NSQHS Standards.
- Strong patient centred care focus on all aspects of training and development
- Ability to use information, evaluations and reports to guide innovative practices and improvements
- High level knowledge of legislation, professional standards, policy and procedures affecting education and clinical practice
- High level knowledge on contemporary adult learning practice and theory, including e-learning design and delivery
- High level knowledge and experience in simulation as a teaching methodology
- Strong understanding of interprofessional education, collaboration and care
- Ability to use electronic information systems to collect data and generate high level compliance and outcome reports to support decision making
- Ability to facilitate the use of robust evaluation principles that lead to clinical or educational improvements and return on investment outcomes
- Ability to champion and lead in periods of process change
- Strong focus on and respect for compliance and working within relevant guidelines, policies and procedure
