Job Details

The federal government department is seeking an experienced Data Scientist to join their team.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Maintain and develop data systems to support the department's 'data informed diplomacy' objectives, including:
  • Scoping and development of relevant data sources, open source and official
  • Scoping and building data models, working with a PowerBI developer
  • Maintaining and extending scripts/tools for ETL, data wrangling, data cleaning, and robust data syncing, utilising Python and other tools
  • Data analysis and visualisation
  • Maintain and develop AI tools to support policy analysis, including:
  • Maintaining and extending a project for summarisation and analysis of open-source (news) and official material (Python, OpenAI, Azure)
  • Expanding or forking the tool for other use cases, subject to stakeholder engagement
  • Fulfilling documentation requirements
  • Providing other data services relevant to the objectives of the Southeast Asia Data Analytics Section as required

Technical Skills

Microsoft Excel, R, Python, SQL, AI APIs/libraries (e.g., Azure, OpenAI).

Desirable: PowerBI and DAX

Additional Requirements

Due to the nature of the role, applicants must be Australian Citizens with an active NV1 or NV2 security clearance.
