Overview

The Research Governance Officer plays a key role in the coordination and oversight of research activities within the QAS. The role ensures that all research conducted under the auspices of QAS meets ethical, legal, and institutional requirements, aligns with organisational priorities, and upholds the principles of scientific integrity and patient safety. The officer provides expert advice and administrative support for research governance processes, including ethics approvals, site authorisation, risk management, and compliance monitoring. Additionally, the role will collaborate on primary and secondary research tasks, where required.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate research applications, including ethics submissions, site-specific assessments, contract review, and data access requests, ideally within a health or academic research environment.
  • Assess research proposals for risk, compliance, and strategic alignment; identify and resolve issues efficiently; and apply sound judgement in a complex, multi-stakeholder setting.
  • Provide guidance and practical advice to researchers, and liaise with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Maintain accurate records, manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and contribute to process improvement in a dynamic research environment.
  • Utilise research administration systems (e.g., ERM, SmartyGrants), Microsoft Office, and electronic document management systems; demonstrate ability to learn new systems quickly.
Qualifications and experience
  • Foundational understanding of quantitative and qualitative health research methods, including study design, data collection, analysis techniques, research terminology and reporting standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to provide clear advice to researchers and prepare governance reports and correspondence.
  • Experience in coordinating research governance in a health-related field is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the promotion of research integrity, ethical conduct, and continuous improvement in governance practices.
Mandatory requirements
  • A tertiary qualification in health, science, research management, public administration, or related discipline.
  • Previous experience navigating research ethics and governance in a health-related field is highly desired.
