Data Business Analyst – Data Governance

Join one of Australia's leading universities and help shape the future of data governance. We're seeking an experienced Data Business Analyst to support a large-scale Data Minimisation and Governance Uplift Program. This role will play a critical part in supporting the ongoing classification and rationalisation of data across the institution, ensuring compliance, improved data quality, and stronger information management practices.

WHAT'S ON OFFER

• $950.00 a day + GST
• Initial 10-Month engagement, with possibility of extension.
• Exposure to working alongside a well-established Australian Uni.

THE ROLE:

• Lead analysis and discovery for a university-wide data minimisation initiative, focusing on reducing redundant, obsolete, and trivial (ROT) data.
• Support the ongoing classification and cataloguing of data across a wide variety of systems and business units.
• Engage, challenge, and influence senior stakeholders, including those with limited data governance maturity to drive alignment and accountability.
• Facilitate workshops to gather business requirements, clarify data ownership, define classification and minimisation rules.
• Document governance requirements, policies, workflows, and operating procedures.
• Collaborate with data stewards, technical teams, and business units to operationalise data classification within governance tools.
• Previous experience with tools such as: RecordPoint, Microsoft Purview, Alation, OneTrust, and Informatica.
• Maintain artefacts in Confluence and manage work items and dependencies using JIRA.
• Work autonomously and proactively manage delivery within a complex and decentralised organisational structure.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

• Extensive experience in data governance, information classification, or data minimisation projects.
• Strong analytical and logical reasoning skills; able to make sense of complex and ambiguous data landscapes.
• Skilled at stakeholder engagement, particularly in navigating challenging or change-resistant environments.
• Confident facilitating workshops, presenting findings, and building consensus across varied stakeholder groups.
• Experience with data governance/classification tools such as RecordPoint, Purview, Alation, OneTrust, or Informatica is highly desirable.
• Self-motivated, with the ability to drive outcomes and add structure in fast-moving environments.
