The program supports individuals diagnosed with rare cancers primarily via phone and telehealth, helping patients access treatment, navigate health systems, manage travel and accommodation, and feel less isolated.

As the Education and Engagement Officer, you will raise awareness of RCA's programs, deliver health education, and build strong relationships with patients, carers, health professionals, and the wider community.

Responsibilities
  • Research, develop and implement education and engagement strategies.
  • Identify key messages and communication channels to reach and engage diverse audiences effectively.
  • Tailor health promotion strategies to meet the needs of priority populations.
  • Deliver and facilitate engaging education and training sessions for patients, carers, health professionals, organisations, and community groups.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community organisations, patient advocacy groups, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders.
  • Actively engage with and consult patients, families and community groups.
  • Organise community events, workshops and educational sessions and represent RCA at interstate forums and conferences as required.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of education and engagement initiatives.
  • Generate regular reports for internal stakeholders.
  • Provide general project support, including communication and outreach activities, and work closely with the Education and Outreach Manager and Project Manager on relevant projects.
About the Role

The role is offered with a maximum term up to 30 June 2027, aligned with government funding. Opportunities for extension or permanency may arise during the contract term.

About Us

Rare Cancers Australia (RCA) is a leading advocacy and support organisation dedicated to improving the lives of those affected by rare cancers. Our mission is to provide support, raise awareness, and drive research initiatives to address the unique challenges individuals diagnosed with rare cancers and their families face. We value a caring, enthusiastic and collaborative workplace and aim to ensure team members have the support they need to be at their best.

About You

This role requires a dynamic and empathetic individual with an understanding of the health sector, patient support, and the unique challenges faced by people affected by rare and less common cancers. The ideal candidate will be skilled in developing effective education strategies and resources and confident in delivering engaging sessions to diverse audiences. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential, along with the ability to tailor messages for different cultural contexts and accessibility needs. Experience working with priority populations, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, rural and remote communities, and culturally and linguistically diverse groups, will be highly regarded. A collaborative approach and a genuine commitment to improving outcomes for people living with rare and less common cancers will be key to success in this role.

Why Join Us

Join a dedicated team working towards a meaningful cause, raising awareness, advocating for change, and providing support to individuals and families affected by rare cancers. This is an opportunity to contribute to improving outcomes for those facing rare cancer diagnoses.
